Check compatibility of smartphone with SIM card / eSIM

Before purchasing a SIM card or eSIM, please ensure the following:
 
  1. Your phone is unlocked.
  2. Your phone is compatible with T-Mobile SIM cards/eSIMs.
To check compatibility, visit the following T-Mobile website. Enter your device's IMEI to confirm the result: "Your device is fully compatible with the T-Mobile network."

Android devices manufactured by Chinese brands, such as HUAWEI, are confirmed to be incompatible with T-Mobile SIM cards and eSIMs as of November 2024.
 
Similarly, any iPhone purchased in mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macao does not support eSIM functionality as of November 2024.

Please also note that T-Mobile SIMs cannot be used with WiFi routers or tablets.

Setup Guide

■ Common Settings for iPhone and Android
After arriving at your destination, insert the SIM card and follow these steps in your phone's settings.

  1. Turn Airplane Mode OFF
  2. Turn Data Roaming ON
  3. Restart your device

■ iPhone Settings
In most cases, inserting the SIM card with the above settings will automatically connect your device to the network. If you are unable to connect to the internet after a few minutes, please refer to the "Troubleshooting" section below.


■ Android Settings
In addition to the above settings, you will need to configure the APN (mobile network). For detailed settings, please refer to the "Troubleshooting" section below.

■ Common Settings for iPhone and Android

Please ensure your device is connected to the internet (e.g., via WiFi) before proceeding with the following steps:

  1. Turn Airplane Mode OFF
  2. Turn Data Roaming ON
  3. Restart your device

■ iPhone Settings

Connect to the Internet using one of the following methods:

  • If you have a notification from T-Mobile: Tap the notification to connect to WiFi (this may appear on the home screen or in Settings).
  • If you have deleted the notification: Go to Settings → CellularAdd eSIM.
  • If the QR code option is displayed: Use QR Code → Enter Details Manually → Enter the SM-DP address: "T-MOBILE.GDSB.NET" → Tap Next in the top-right corner.

Once the above steps are complete:

  1. Select your preferred communication line.
  2. Set up Cellular Data:
    • If you are in Japan: Turn off "T-Mobile line."
    • If you are in the US: Turn off the "Existing line" (line normally used in Japan) and turn on the "T-Mobile line.”

■Android Settings
1. Go to Connections → Tap SIM Manager → Tap Add eSIM. If the phone carrier is displayed, select "T-Mobile."

*If the QR code option is displayed, manually enter the following:
SM-DP+Address: T-MOBILE.GDSB.NET

2. Select a US phone number.

3. Set up Network Settings:

  • If you are in Japan: Turn off the "T-Mobile line."
  • If you are in the US: Turn off the "Existing line" (line normally used in Japan) and turn on the "T-Mobile line."

Note: Display options may vary depending on your device model and OS version.

If you cannot connect to the Internet after waiting about 5 minutes, you may need to manually configure the APN (mobile network) settings.

         1. Manually enter the following information in the new APN settings.

  • Name: "T-Mobile"   
  • APN: "Fast.t-mobile.com"

2. Tap the Save button and select "T-Mobile" from the APN list.

3. Restart your device.
