FAQs

Difference between SIM Card and eSIM

[SIM card]

  • A small, removable chip that you insert into a slot on your phone.
  • If you’re traveling or switching to a different phone plan, you usually replace this SIM card for a new one.

[eSIM]

  • The “e” stands for "embedded," meaning it’s built directly into the phone’s hardware—there’s no physical card to insert or remove.
  • You can download and switch between plans digitally, so when you need a new phone plan or data package, it’s added to your device through software without having to put in a new SIM card.
Note: To add an eSIM into your device, you will need to have an internet connection, such as WiFi.

A physical SIM requires swapping a card, while an eSIM is already built into your phone and allows you to download and activate different plans right from your settings.

SIM Card is better for...

  • People who are used to swapping SIM cards: If you like having a physical card you can easily move from one phone to another, a SIM card is familiar and straightforward.
  • Users with older devices: Many older phones and devices don’t support eSIMs, so a SIM card is sometimes the only option.
  • Anyone who prefers flexibility when traveling: For some international travelers, it’s still easy and affordable to buy a local SIM card to insert into their phone at their destination.

eSIM is bester for...

  • Frequent travelers: An eSIM makes it easy to add and switch between international plans directly from your device, so you’re connected instantly when you arrive in a new country—no need to search for a SIM card.
  • Those who want a simpler setup: With eSIM, you can activate a new plan directly through your phone, so it’s convenient if you don’t want to deal with physical SIM cards.
  • People with newer devices: Many of the latest smartphones now come with eSIM capability and sometimes only support eSIM (especially for newer models).

Both options have their strengths, so choosing one depends on your device, travel habits, and whether you prefer physical or digital options.
